Hello:)
Tunis Danford certainly seems a bit elusive - the bits and pieces people seem to have about him don't always match up, so I'm a bit confused! Here's what little I know (which is more about the McPhersons):
Polly McPherson was born Georgia Patricia (Pattie) Miles in New York in 1832 or 1833.One listing I've seen for her says 18 April 1833, but I have no confirmation of this.
She was married to Andrew Young McPherson in New York, although I'm not certain of the date here. One date mentioned (on the LDS database) is for a marriage in 1863. However their son, George, is thought to have been born in 1860, so either the marriage date is off, or they had been living together, they combined families from previous marriages/relationships, or some such.
Andrew McPherson was killed at Spotsylvania during the Civil War (May, 1864) and Polly/Patty and her children (as by now there was a Samantha Lavinia McPherson as well) moved to Michigan.I'm not certain exactly when or why this occurred, but at that time she was still receiving a Civil War widow's pension (a relation has this information and is sending me the documents in the next few weeks).
On 01 April 1869 she married Tunis Danford in Montcalm Co. MI - do you have this marriage record?I thought perhaps you did due to knowing about him marrying a McPherson, but if not I can send you a scanned copy of it.
The fact he died/was buried in Ionia MI possibly seems to connect, since that is just south of Montcalm Co. I believe.I am expecting some more records concerning Polly to be sent in the next few weeks, so I can let you know if there's anything there that may interest you.
For my part, I'd be grateful to know what happened to Tunis after marrying Polly - whether they stayed married, whether she went to Ohio as well, anything you'd care to share would be great!I'm brand new to this genealogy research 'hobby' (perhaps 'addiction' would be more accurate) so anything you know would be of interest.
Feel free to email me if you like, or if you prefer to stick to the forum I'll check back regularly.
:)
Karen
