Many people have tried to find this connection, but nobody seems to have much. I'm a 4th great grandson via his second wife, Mary Barnard. Brown's Yarmouth Genealogies (pg 57 of 1990's reprint) says he is descended from Rev. Francis Dane of Andover (1616-1697) son of Immigrant John Dane (imm to Ipswich ~ 1644, d 1658) but does not give a line of descent. This may just have been conjecture, since Brown was making a point of the coincidence of Thomas Dane marrying Mary Barnard. Mary was the great great granddaughter of Rev Thomas Barnard, who was a colleague of Rev Francis Dane at Andover from 1682 on. Jim Kowald proposes a very weak (his own words) possible line via Israel Dane at: http://www.newerindustries.com/Jim/genealogy/Briggs/Dane-Thomas1750.htm ancestry.com has a line giving John V Dane b 1716 Andover MA as Thomas's father, but there are no sources listed and no contact information. http://awtc.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=*v122t0257&id=I0601 Since our Thomas Dane shows up in an 1827 Yarmouth census as a tinsmith, I've always wondered if he might be a son of the Boston silversmith Thomas Dane (b. 1726 Ipswich) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~silversmiths/ Does anyone know if he had a son Thomas?
