Rev. Francis Dane - - - Witchrod

If a lightning rod attracts lightning then I've invented the word witchrod to mean one who attracks accusations of witchcraft towards themselves or their kin. In the case of Salem Village that person was Israel Porter. He was never accused but ten or fifteen of his family or associates were. In Andover, Mass. that person was the Reverend Francis Dane. The following list should help clarify.

Stephen Johnson - Grandson
Elizabeth Johnson Jr. - Grandaughter
Elizabeth (Dane) Johnson - daughter
Sarah Hawkes - grandson's wife
Sarah (Hooper) (Hawkes) Wardwell - grandson's wife's mother
Samuel Wardwell - grandson's wife's husband
Mercy Wardwell - grandson's sister-in-law
Martha (Allen) Carrier - wife's niece
Thomas Carrier - wife's grandnephew
Sarah Carrier - wife's grandniece
Mary (Allen) Toothaker - wife's niece
Roger Toothaker - wife's niece's husband
Martha (Toothaker) Emerson - wife's grandniece
Abigail Faulkner - granddaughter
Abigail Faulkner Jr. - great-granddaughter
Dorothy Faulkner - great- granddaughter
