Hi
I was browsing the Rootsweb Archives (IRL -CAVAN) & found the text below (I copied it into a word document) Unfortunately either I didn't copy the rest of the article or it didn't give what happened next
Anglo-Celt, Thursday, February 23, 1849
CALENDAR OF PRISONERS FOR TRIAL AT CAVAN SPRING ASSIZES, 1849.
6. James SLOAN, Rich. FITZSIMONS, Patrick LYNCH, W. M'ENARNEY, William DANCEY, Hugh M'DONNELL and Alexander DANCEY - charged with being of an armed party, who feloniously and burglariously entered the dwelling-house of John M'ENERNEY, on the evening of the 13th December last, and did steal and carry away there from 150 in bank notes, and a quantity of goods
At first I thought this might be my William Dancey - but as he would have been about 59, I thought that unlikely. Then I saw the name Alexander as well.
So I think this is 2 of the lads of Amelia Dancey (other sons Matthew, Newberry & James). I had always thought that this family probably had Cavan connections, deduced from Newberry's name (see earlier post).
It would allfit; The boys father had died, elder brother Matthew had already emigrated to Canada, & Mum with lively lads who were obviously getting into trouble. No wonder they emigrated in 1851!
