HI Folks,
I have a mystery for you to help me solve.
My 2x great grandmother was Irene Dancy (1832-1914) I have found alot of similarities between her history and another of a woman named Irene DANOY Waldron in Tazwell Co. VA. I do know that there was Dancys in VA at the time of both women's lives, so they are most certainly relatives.
Ok, well here goes the explaination of the mystery! It seems that an Irene Danoy (1832 aged 15) married a Zachariah Waldron in Tazwell VA in 1845 and that they had two children together, Sarah A. and William Estel born June 1850. She was reported as dying in 1850 in Tazwell but there is no hard proof of this, I have contacted many people including Tazwell Co. Clerk about her death, marriage or a divorce. Her children were raised by Zachariah's second wife, and Zachariah died sometime in the 1880's.
Now for the mystery...My Irene was born 1832 with relatives in VA (but I don't know where) and is shown as living with her father, Jesse James Dancy and family in Clay Co. KY in the 1850 Census UNDER the name Areina Dancy. BUT, when I find her again she is getting married to Jeptha Becket in 1852 Clinton Co. OH (where her sister lived) without children but with the last name of Waldon on her marriage certificate. She had one child by Jeptha Becket and then I find her getting divorced from him in 1856 in the Wilmington OH newspaper abstracts. She had abandoned him 3 years earlier and he was the one that filed for divorce. I next find her living in Fulton Co Illinois living as a domestic with her child in 1860 with her second married name Becket. She next marries George Washington Snider in Fulton Co. IL in 1862 and it is through this line that I am decended.
With the name Danoy being so close to Dancy...the time period that I find her in the 1850 at age 18 under the name Dancy, and her 2nd marriage listing her as Waldren...would you say that Irene Danoy is Irene Dancy? I can't find any hard facts about Irene Danoy but her wedding date and a birth date (1832).
Was this an arranged marriage? Could she have been in trouble and had to marry him? Did she run off from Zachariah if this was Irene 6 weeks after she had her last child? Was it easier for Zachariah to declare her dead than to admit that she had abandoned him and her children? Why would she run away, without her children?
Did a VA Dancy relative help her to get to her father Jesse James Dancy in KY? I am sure that this 'rabbit hole' has an explaination...but ?
I hope that someone will love a mystery and be able to help me with this because there are to many similarities to both stories.
