Hello Michael John William Dancy,
I have a gut feeling that we might be on the right track..
You say that your Grandfather was born about 1920 ?
I have a picture of an 8-10 year old William Dancy taken about 1895-1900 - It could be possible that this is your G-Grandfather ? I also have pictures of his father (Also a William, maybe your G-G-Grandfather ?) and an even older Gentleman (Also a William, perhaps your G-G-G-Grandfather ?).
I think that if we want to pursue this any further you will have to establish (maybe with the help of older relatives) whether your family was established back in Toronto as early as 1850-1900. I have pictures of the William Dancy Butcher shop at 145 Chesnut St, that's just behind the Bus terminal on Bay St.
Anyways, poke around and talk to some older relatives to see whether we are on the right track. If we are on the right track, I think that I might have some interesting family pictures from the late 1800's for you to investigate.
Dayn
