Additional information:in the 1870 census of Illinois there are two Samuel Dancy's -- one in Livingston County as described previously and one in Edgar County. The latter's age is given as 36 (born Indiana), wife Mahala age 35 (born North Carolina).Children: Manthay(??)(daughter)age 18 (born IN), William 16 (born IN) and James 6 (born IL).Therefore, the Samuel Dancy/Dancey who married a woman named Mahala was the one in Edgar County. This individual is also probably the Samuel Dansey(sic) who was a private in the 150th Illinois Infantry, Co. K in the Civil War since his residence is listed as Stratton (a township of Edgar County). Therefore, so far, there is no evidence that the Samuel Dancey of Livingston County married before 1870.
