Jesse Ward Dancer married a widow with three children named Dicie McBee McCandless (My GGGM) in December of 1870. He was about 16 she was about 28. They moved from Somerset on the Bexar Co./Atascosa Co. Texas border to Frio County where Jesse claimed some land under a homestead law in 1875. They had two children (1872 & 1874) and were doing pretty well it seemed.
Jesse and nearly every neighbor got in trouble with the law all at one time. Jesse was accused of cattle theft plus murder and everyone else was accused of cattle theft. Jesse was arrested, escaped, recaptured and escaped again. In 1882 the law was still looking for him but they never found him.
It appears that someone wanted these people off that land and the Deed Book of Frio Co. "B" was stolen from the courthouse not long after that during a small fire that was set in one end of the courthouse. I think there wasn't any murder, at least not by Jesse Ward Dancer and the whole thing reaks! Long story and not for this query.
I want to know what happened to him and where he went. I'd like to contact all of his descendants also. The two children born to this marriage were Thomas Allend Dancer (1874) and Cordelia Tennessee Dancer (1872) but Jesse probably married again and had more children.
