We have a record of a Chesterfield County, VA Rebecca Dance in that time frame but our notes have no dates for her. We had trouble with our database several years ago and many dates and perhaps places in those fields vanished--very frustrating!

She was the daughter (1 of 8 children listed in family Bible) of Sarah Hill Dance and Matthew Dance. Matthew was a son of Stephen Dance and grandson of Thomas Dance who was the first (known to us)Dance in America, emigrating from "Drury Lane", London in 1698 to Jamestown, VA.
Matthew was a very long term resident of Chesterfield area. Two of the 8 children listed were "stricken out" from the Bible because they married people from North Carolina without their Father Matthew Dance's permission. I don't know if she was one of the two but if she is the right one for your search and you know she stayed in Virginia--probably not!

Siblings listed were:
Frances Dance *female
Stephen Matthew Dance
Rebecca Dance
Martha F. Dance
Thomas Hill Dance
Mayesy Dance
Matthew Mayes Dance or Matthew M. Dance (we think 99.9% same person) born 29 Jan 1790 in Dinwiddie Co., VA and died 8 March 1873 in Prince Edward Co., VA.

We have information stating that this Rebecca Dance married one Benjamin Harris on 15 December 1802. Of course that never stopped good men from dying and Rebecca needing to marry again!
I hope it is the same lady but Rebecca was a recurring name in the family and the Dance's did the Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri migrations with a few forays elsewhere like North Carolina for the two children of this family and several others including one Revolutionary War veteran.

We'd love to know about your Dance related information to see where it fits in the history.
Thanks,
Terri Dance
