In History of Woodstock, CT, Genealogies of Woodstock Families by Clarence Winthrop Bowen, Norwood, MA, Plimpton Press, 1932, stated on page 202 about Richard Dana "Of Cambridge 1640, b. Italy (probably Sicily) about 1612, went with his parents to France, was one of the persecuted Huguenots who fled to England and America, d. Cambride Apr. 2, 1690, m. 1648 Anne Bullard of Cambridge, d. July 15, 1711, daughter of Robert Bullard of Watertown and Anne. It is family tradition that the father of Richard emigrated from France to England 1629"

However, when one attempts to join either of the Huguenot Hereditary Societies, one is told as I was by letter, there is no evidence that Richard Dana was descended from Huguenots. Is there other factual evidence that he was a Huguenot descendant?
I am sure that other Dana descendants would like to know if they really do qualify for membership in the two Huguenot Societies.
