Yes, he is.He is my 3g granduncle, among other relationships.A man of many talents, he platted the town of Trinidad, Kaufman Co, TX (now called Rosser). His sister, Susannah Damron, m Joshua Warren Brock Jr in Sarcoxie, MO abt 1835 and settled in Brockville (now Bristol) TX in Ellis Co, not far from Rosser. Also, John S. was postmaster at Trinidad in 1856.I think he may have also filed for land grants in San Bernardino, CA after he went there.I understand that he left TX because he and his wife Sally, like most of their kin and like most families whose breadwinner went to the Civil War, had just about lost everything to the war and to high Reconstruction taxes, added to a terrible drought.
Also on that Henderson Co TX census you will find the grandfather that John S. Damron was named after:John Rudicill Shultz.
