Rockcastle, KY (Jesse&Sarah)
Piecing together a puzzle on a hunch.....
Looking at a Woodall Rockcastle Co., birth record (9-11-1854) on Ancestry.com, I realized that the transcriber made a mistake. They listed the child's father as J. H. Woodall (correct) and the mother as Mary Hiatt.
But, I noticed the name listed just above Mary Hiatt as Jane Damron. J. H. Woodall's wife was named Jane. Since the father's names were listed on one page and the mother's names listed on another I counted the names up the page to J. H. Woodall, then counted the names up to Jane Damron. It was a match.
I think this Jane Damron would fit nicely into the Jesse & Sarah Damron family. According to her death information, Jane was born June 20, 1820 in Ky. She named her children (along with my theories):
John Woodall
(I believe this was J. H. Woodall's father's name),
Eliza Ann Woodall
(in the 1860 & 1870 census, Jane was listed as "Eliza J." In the 1850, 1880, & 1900 census, she was listed as Jane. Her headstone also says Jane.),
James Robert Woodall
(J. H. Woodall was JAMES H. Woodall.),
Lucinda Woodall
(didn't Jesse & Sarah have a daughter named Lucinda?),
Jesse Woodall
(named after Jane's father, Jesse Damron?),
William Thomas Woodall,
Sarah Woodall
(after Jane's mother, Sarah?),
Nancy Woodall
(did Jesse & Sarah have a daughter named Nancy?)
Jane Damron Woodall died Feb. 5, 1901 and is buried at Brodhead Baptist Church Cemetery.
I now need some Damron experts to tell me if Jane Damron Woodall as Jesse & Sarah Damron's daughter is a leap!
Thanks,
Betty
