What a fine piece of detective work. Thanks for sharing.
I too found the birth records for Thomas and Alice's children amongst the vital records for Pembroke. They are, in fact, available for free online at this site:
But what I really want to find is Thomas's birth record -- he is my 6-great grandfather. It is commonly acknowledged that he was the son of John Damon (b. 1687) as some previous posters pointed out, but I wish we had something more solid that circumstantial evidence.
I did find the Scituate vital records online (http://www.archive.org/details/vitalrecordsofsc01newe) and searched those since John Damon was born there. If you look on Page 126, it notes that John was "of Marshfield."
Since the Marshfield records are not available online, I E-mailed the town clerk and asked her to do a lookup. She did and found no birth record there for Thomas Damon (including variants).
I have to conclude that he (Thomas) was born in Pembroke but that the record was destroyed. Someone mentioned that fire destroyed many of the old records in Pembroke, so I guess we may never know with absolute certainty whom his parents were.
