Rita (Fornes) Cook Damon Obit
ADRIAN — Rita Cook Damon, age 89, of Adrian died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Findlay, Ohio, to George and Crystal (Hicks) Fornes. In 1936, Rita married Harold Cook. He preceded her in death in 1968. In 1976, she married Cal Damon in Adrian. He preceded her in death in 1986. Rita was employed by American Chain and Cable for 30 years, retiring in 1978. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the center of her life. She and her family enjoyed many days at her cottage on Meadow Lake. A child at heart, a lover of children of all ages; many people called her “mom.” A humble and simple woman, and the heart of her family, she will be dearly missed. She loved sewing, quilting, baking, playing cards, Scrabble and puzzles.
Rita is survived by two sons, Ronald (Ursula) Cook of Sterling Heights, Mich., Martin (Valerie) Cook of Perrysburg, Ohio; four daughters, Marita Rose Cremeans of Blissfield, Cynthia Holtz of Adrian, Lorene Cook and Brian Desmond of Kalamazoo, and Valerie (Robbin) Bays of Adrian; two brothers, George (JoAnne) Fornes of Columbus, Ohio, and Lawrence (Helen) Fornes of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Lillian Walker of Houston, Texas, Fern Marohn, her twin, Marie Snyder and Irene Ufheil, all of Findlay, Ohio; 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three stepchildren. In addition to her husband, Calvin, she was preceded in death by four sons, David Cook, Harry Cook, Stephen Cook and Gary Cook; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Rita will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with Father Russ Kohler officiating. Burial will take place at St. Michael Cemetery, in Findlay, Ohio, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held today from 2-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
