My grandfather always had told me that D'Amico ment Son of a Friend. The literal translation of D'Amico is "of a friend" so I presume that the figlio (Son) got lost was back in the old country. Another branch of the D'Amico family is Domico, for I know my great uncle spells it that way. My grandparents (A. D'Amico and Margaret Finitzo) were both born in chicago, Il, but both their parents were from Naples (Joseph D'Amico, ? Caperelli, ? Finitzo)
--In anycase, from what my grandfather told me, our name may have come from possably "figlio D'Amico". It may also be wise to look up "Domico". I just started all this geneology stuff, so if anyone would like to send me any tips, it would be much appreciated. I will be glad to be of any service to you all.
