Is there anyone with knowledge of ROSARIA D'AMBROSIO of NYC who arrived in the US in about 1902 at 18 years of age? She married LUIGI GALLO. The surname may have appeared under a number of different variant spellings of D'Ambrosio.
It appears that her family may have been from Calabria, but I have nothing in hand to substantiate that belief as yet. It certainly seems logical, but that may be an unfounded assumption. I saw records for a number of D'AMBROSIO emmigrations out of Pola, Italy/Croatia, including a much older ROSARIA D'AMBROSIO, but find nothing linking the two groups.
Information is that she was the daughter of a CARLO D'AMBROSIO who arrived earlier than his children. Family story relays that he was a night watchman.
Best information is that she had siblings RAFAELLA, ELIZABETH, FRANK and EMIEL/EMIL/etc. Frank lived under surname AMBROSE after arriving in the US.
Her sister ELIZABETH married _________ PORTILLO (or similar spelling) and lived in Patterson NJ where they had 14 children.
