Excuse me folks, but if your last name is Stair, you are most likely NOT related to the Earl of Stair. Stair is a town in Scotland.
James Dalrymple was the first Viscount of Stair, his son John was the first Earl of Stair.
There is no proven link to any Dalrymple in the USA to the Dalrymples of Stair! If anyone can provide such a link I would be glad to put it online in my Dalrymples of Stair database at http://home.mem.net/~dalrympl
