Correspondence with other researchers and further investigations have pointed out some errors in my posts in need of correction. CHRONOLOGY FOR RICHARD DALE: Bedford Co., VA, marriage records list the following: Richard Dale m. Mary Ready, 16 Jan 1784 Lewis Mason m. Elizabeth Ready (daughter of Mary Ready), 9 Feb 1792 These two facts clarify several points in my chronology. Dennis and Smith (1975), which I used as a source for Bedford Co., VA, marriages, listed the marriage of Lewis Mason to "Betsey Dale" on Feb. 1, 1792--apparently the date of the marriage license and bond--and listed "Richard and Mary Dale, parents of Betsy". I took that to mean they were her natural parents, especially since the marriages of the other siblings were either listed as "Reedy" and/or consent was given by Mary alone. It is clear now that "Betsey Dale" is actually "Elizabeth Reedy" (nickname "Betsey" and informally or formally adopted surname "Dale") who married Lewis Mason on 9 Feb 1792. This dispels my erroneous assertion that Betsey and Lewis were 1st cousins. With that clarification, then the 16 Jan 1784 marriage of widow Mary "Molly" Ready to Richard Dale is more logical than my estimated marriage date for that couple of “1771-77” based on my erroneous assumption above. This also puts a definitive date on Richard’s first marriage which Patrick Wardell (1994) cited as “c1784?”. I am indebted to Tom Reedy for offering much data on the Ready family and clarifying the Dale-Reedy/Ready connections. WILLIAM DALE (2nd) ESTATE INVENTORY AND SALE: In my post on the estate of William Dale (2nd), I made the following typo: “...’Territory South of the River Ohio’, ceded by NC in 1789 to the U.S. Congress.” Of course, the territory was ceded to the Federal government , not Congress. Also in the listing of that estate and in my discussion of the “wagon load of salt” which helped point to geographic connections among these Dale’s, I am still unclear if the wagon, salt, guns, etc., were *sold* to Jacob Wade in Bedford Co., VA, or if they had been *purchased” from him but had not yet been brought to Washington Co., TN. Q: Does anyone know if either Bedford Co., VA, or Washington Co., TN, would have been a production or distribution point for an essential commodity like salt in that era? That might help clarify which way that transaction was going! Chuck Notify Administrator about this message?
