I just came across a William DALE who would be an early resident of Norfolk Co., VA. This was from the Virginia Historical Index which references an article in the William and Mary College Quarterly Hist. Magazine (Series 1), vol. 25 (1917), p. 40 ff.:
Charles F. McIntosh listed "Ages of Lower Norfolk Co. people, from Depositions in Bks A-D (1637-1665) in Norfolk Co. Clerk's Office":
Dale, William. Aged 40 yrs [thereabouts] in 1662.
I cannot place him among any of the early Dale lineages (English, Scot-Irish, or Irish). Does anyone recognize this William Dale? (He was the only Dale listed in that article by McIntosh.)
