Augustus Van Dake

Augustus Van Dake purchased the southeast portion of lot 26, Penfield in 1807, thereby acquiring 103 acres. Dr VanDake had commenced the practice of medicine in Penfield in 1804, and when he died in 1810, his was the first burial in the new cemetery. The 1810 census lists four sons and five daughters, all under 16.

A family bible recorded that Augustus Dake, son of Edward and Mary Dake, married Eunice Hamilton and had the following children: Edmond born August 5, 1793, married Amanda Taylor of Penfield; Edward, born April 23, 1796, married Charity Van Warmer; Elisha, born September 2, 1797, married Olive Brooby; Like born July 28, 1799, married Alta Bowen; Erastus, born September 1801, married a Barber; Amanda, born April 25, 1803; Betsy born December 24, 1804; Armenia, born April 13, 1806; Polly, born January 5, 1807; Adlina, born November 3, 1809; Levi born February 9, 1812; Oliver, born Decemeber 27, 1813. Part of the Penfield VanDake moved onto Otto, NY. End.

My Personal Note: If Augustus died in 1810...did his wife marry 2nd and then had Levi in 1812 and Oliver born in 1813? Or his date of death may have been a little later than 1810. Just a thought.
