Re: Thrre John Dakes (VA) to James in MO
Is anyone still working on the origins of John Dake in Virginia?I am a direct line decendant of that John Dake.I would like to compare the resources I have researched to see if I have missed somethihg or if someone knows that a particular resource is not helpfu.
The story is that John Dake was a Hessian soldier.I think that story started with an uncle of mine who visited Shenandoah County in the Forties or Fifties.I have looked in the Hetrina and in Clifford Smith's works, but have found no direct link.If John Dake were a Hessian, he changed his name.
There is no question that John Dake was German. And if he was not a Hessian Soldier then, he either came directly from Germany or more likely from Pennslyvannia.
Like I said, I mostly want to compare notes and see what areas other people have looked at.
