Is anyone still working on the origins of John Dake in Virginia? I am a direct line decendant of that John Dake. I would like to compare the resources I have researched to see if I have missed somethihg or if someone knows that a particular resource is not helpfu.
The story is that John Dake was a Hessian soldier. I think that story started with an uncle of mine who visited Shenandoah County in the Forties or Fifties. I have looked in the Hetrina and in Clifford Smith's works, but have found no direct link. If John Dake were a Hessian, he changed his name.
There is no question that John Dake was German. And if he was not a Hessian Soldier then, he either came directly from Germany or more likely from Pennslyvannia.
Like I said, I mostly want to compare notes and see what areas other people have looked at.
