A further update: I have done a little more digging and found the census records for my ggg-gf John T. Dake. He appears in the 1851 census in Scugog Township of Ontario County in Ontario of then Canada West with his first wife, Elizabeth (Lewis?) age 34. The children are daughter Charity, age 12; son Charles, 10; son Ezra, 8; dau. Hannah, 5; son William Thomas, 3. Another son Benjamin Lewis was born in 1854. Other records suggest 2 more sons, Perry and John Jr. At this time John is 35 years old and a farmer, born in New York State and a "Bible Christian". Elizabeth and all of the children are born in Canada.
In the 1880 US census, John is found in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with his second wife, Mary (?) age 33 born in Ohio. The children are Sophronia, age 14 born in Canada; Isabella, 11 born in Michigan; Ida, 8 born in Michigan; Edward P., 6 born in Michigan; Cassie, 4 born in Michigan; and what looks like Phillip B., 1 born in Michigan.
I found his unmarked grave in the Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with the recorded date of death of May 16, 1881. At the time he was a laborer and carpenter.
The various census records and information in the cemetery place his birth between 1816 and 1820. Anybody want to claim these ancestors?
