John Dake of Port Huron,MI in 1870
Time to post something new. I've found one more generation and maybe somebody will recognize these ancestors. I have found my ggg-gf in the 1870 census in Port Huron Township in St. Clair County, Michigan. From the census and from copies of letters from the 1950's from another distant cousin researching the family history nearly a half century ago, I located John T. Dake (52) with his second wife, Mary (24) and the following children from both marriages: William Thomas "Tom" (20), Sophronia(4)and Isabelle (1).
I know that there was a total of 9 children including John Jr. that stayed in Canada after the family came over to Michigan in 1869, Benjamin (b.1854), Ida, Charity, Hannah and one other daughter, name unknown.
Ben married Carrie and had these children: Earl m. Lula, Guy m. Alice, Walter m. Rose, and Hattie. Isabelle m. John Hartman. The letters that I have obtained copies of show that Earl was researching the family in the Lake Scugog, Ontario region so maybe this is where they emigrated from in 1869. John is supposedly buried in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He died on May 16, 1881 and was born in New York State between 1818 and 1820. John's first wife was Elizabeth Lewis.
Sound familiar?
