In 1708, the Kayderosseras Patent was purchased by thirteen citizens of Albany from the King of England.Certain Indian chiefs sighed the Patent. In 1767 the heirs of the original thirteen decided to survay and divide it between them. A "Great Drawing" was held in New York City and the portion covering the Town of Greenfield fell to Abraham Bancher.
In 1786 Charles Dake, Sr. using some of the money which he received for military services in the Revolutionary War purchased about 1,500 acres from him. It proved to be a good investment; when he died in 1803 he left each of his four sons a farm.
