Hi
My name is Paul Abbot. I am following up on possible lost relative leads and I came across your reference on the Net My grandfather also came from Molong.
I am a descendant of Alfred Dain who relocated to New Zealand around 1900 give or take 10 years. My Mother tells me her father Alfred talked very little about his family he left behind in Australia. She can recall him saying he had a brother who died young called Jack and seven sisters. They lived in Molong [Although spelling could be wrong]. He mentioned the oldest sister was called Ester or possible Edith. Years later about 1937 a grand daughter of one of the sisters came out to New Zealand and found our family in Opotiki in the Bay of Plenty my mother now 83 thinks she was called Edith McIvor, she was the one who told us the sad story of how Alfred had left Australia, apparently, his parent[s] had died when he was a young teenager and suddenly left him with seven very young children to raise, unable to cope he made the hardest decision I guess anyone could make and drove them all in by horse and cart to Sydney orphanage and left them there. My mother also was found a relative with whom she corresponded with during the war [WW2] years and her name was Elaine Druitt

Look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Paul
