In the 1861 Census of Staffordshire, England, the following entry was found: DELVES 2032 Folio 4 Thomas DAIN 37 head no occupation b. Tipton Mary DAIN 29 wife b. West Bromwich William CARTER 8 son in law b. West Bromwich Thomas CARTER 6 son in law b. West Bromwich Elizabeth DAIN 3 daughter b. Wednesbury. (I am making the assumption that son in law should be step son) I found a MARY CARTER in the IGI, daughter of Thomas and Martha GRISE CARTER, which certainly could be the above, Mary DAIN. However I have been unable to find the marriage records of Thomas DAIN and Mary CARTER. I did find a birth certificate of what appears to be the above Thomas CARTER, born to Mary CARTER. It does not state that she is widowed or single and does not list a father. I would appreciate any assistance from anyone that might be connected to this family or has additional knowledge of them. My ancestor, Thomas CARTER was born in West Bromwich according to his daughter in late 1854 or early 1855 and his father name was listed as Thomas on his record of marraige in Staffordshire.
