I'm starting from scratch to try and piece together my paternal ancestry. This is the information I have. I am particularly interested in finding out whether any relatives of my late grandfather Edward George Derry are still in Ireland. But of course I'm interested in Derrys in general and I am happy to share my findings with anyone else trying to put together their family tree. This isthe information I have so far:
Great Grandfather - Edward Derry a Sgt. major in the Royal Engineers. Married Elizabeth Breeze Derry Died at Fort Camden near Cork in Ireland and buried at Crosshaven in Ireland.
Grandfather -Edward George Derry born in Cardiff in 1888. Joined Royal Engineers. His company was one of the first to land in France in 1914 and he survived many major campaigns and ended the war in Constantinople. He was demobbed in 1919 and joined the Irish Post Office, stationed in Belfast. Followed his aunt Mary Argyle (his father’s sister) who had raised him after his father died, to South Africa where he married Susannah Strydom. They had two sons Robert Patrick (my late father) and Edward and the
late Gloria (died this year).My father married Ann Lorraine Ford. They had a son Michael (living in Australia married to Sue) and a daughter Kathleen (that’s me). Married to Chris Freimond - living in Canada.
That is as far back as I have been able to trace. If you have a common ancestor I would love to hear from you. - Kathleen
