First, I have no knowledge (or even a decent clue) to the Daily ancestral line prior to my William Daily (actually he's in my wife's ancestral line). That's why I responded to your post; I was hoping your William was my William's father. The birthdates are close enough to make it a possibility, but so far I've seen nothing on my William to indicate that his middle initial was a J.
All I know for sure is that my William was born in NY about 1802 based on the 1850 Montgomery IL census. He is shown with his wife Maria (or Mariah) and two children; Duron (an unusual name), and Laura. Both of those children were born in Ohio.
William died between 1850 and 1860. Maria remaried a Mr. High. He also passed on prior to the 1860 census. The 1860 Montgomery County census shows Maria High living with Duron, Laura A., and Franklin Daily; Franklin was born in NY about 1826 based on his age in the census. I have never found any indication of children being born between Franklin and Duron.
I was informed by another researcher that the license for Laura Ann's second marriage shows her mother's maiden name to be Maria Taylor. Based on the 1850 census Maria was born in NY in 1802.
I've found a marriage between a William Daily and a Maria Taylor in 1823 in Genoa, Cayuga County, NY., but no indication of their parents or descendants. I'm wondering why that record was posted without any connections.
In addition I've found a Taylor family (Thaddeus Taylor), living in Franklin, Delaware County NY, with a daughter Maria of the proper age. Cayuga and Delaware counties are relatively close. So far I haven't been able to make a connection between this Maria and the reported marriage.
I feel much like a dectective working on a very cold case. I'll let you know if I discover that my William is your William J.
Is Thompkins County anywhere near Delaware or Cayuga Counties?
