My name is Roland J. Howard....and dad was Roland Bernard Howard...and Grandmother was Eliza Lenora Smithwick, whose father was John Henry Smithwick who married Ada Dail. It was John Henry`s second marriage after 1st Emma Sutton.(By first marriage had three children, two boys and girl). John Henry and Ada Dail, were "given a small farm" around Vanceboro, near New Bern N.C. after his death, by Elbert Dail and wife Mary ??......I am not sure if this was a brother,father or what.....John Henry and Ada Dail had the following children... Henry Elbert; Joseph; Eliza Lenora (grandmother) ; Lottie; Son (left home and dissapeared); Sam (Norfolk Va.); Milton (Portsmouth)....
John Henry Smithwick, and Ada Dail Smithwick moved to Hampstead Area in early part of 1900`s, and was a "tenant farmer on Howards Grovedere area".....Grandaddy Bernard met her at the "store" one night, and had told a friend ...."Mame , thats the woman I`m, a gonna marry", and did.....He was 24, and she 14 at the time....they had 10 children, my father Roland Bernard the next to the older......
