Hello Dail Cousins..... I have my doubts about my Dails originating in Charleston, SC....They , or some may have lived there but I have seen nothing to verify they were originally from Charleston..... The aforementioned Dail Post by me, however is 100% correct other than that.... There is a tremendous amount of data on the "web" ref the Dails and beginnings.....everything from the "Lost Colony" remanants , and the carving in the tree of "Croatan" and etc. , and linking the Lumbees about Lumberton, N.C. to the mixture of the "Lost Colony" and the Indians there from the Indians and English, who made up the "Lost Colony" that was lost and et. al. too. Also a mixture of the "RedBones" of Louisiana, and another tribe from Tennessee, mixed to be a part of this group of Lumbee`s.......Anyway, there are many , many DAILS still living there around Lumberton, and I like the Lost Colony Theory, and seems to make the most sense of the Indian Heritage about us.....and my great grandmother Ada Catherine Dail, and my grandmother Eliza Lenora Smithwick, and father Roland Bernard Howard, were very dark complexioned, and grandmother had, as did Ada Catherine Dail, long straight hair , as she wore in a "bun" pulled back as I remember her, but have pictures of Ada Catherine Dail too.........Real interesting reading..... My first Dail WAS James Dail and Nancy Murphrey, as I suspect, since he was born about 1700was the first Dail of all of us around here.....until we find who his father was. I branch out then and go to Elbert the son of James....and his daughter was Ada Dail, who married John Henry Smithwick.
