John was born 9 Feb 1875, son of O.H. and Martha (Johnson) Dahlgren. O.H. Dahlgren was born 1841 at Vermland and was a land owner and timber merchant. Martha died in Sweden in 1883 and in 1889 O.H. Dahlgren came to the US and was a farmer at Warren, MN. In 1909, he retired at Turlock, CA. Children of O.H. and Martha Dahlgren: Halver (Dixon, MT), Lena (Mrs. John Rosenberg, Vincent Creek, MN); Olaf (Turlock, CA); John (Missoula, MT); Walfred (Turlock, CA).
John Dahlgren was 14 years old when he came to the US with his father in 1889. He attended business college in Minneapolis. For a year he worked on his father's farm and then in a leading store in Argyle, MN, where he worked for 15 years as salesman and collector.
He came to Montana and in 1909 organized the Scandanavian-American Bank of Missoula. When the bank opened in 1910, John was cashier. In 1917, the bank was reorganized as the American Bank and Trust Company, of which John was vice president and manager. He was also president of the First National Bank of Shiloh, First National Bank of Ronan, and the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Dixon, Montana. He was vice Swedish Consul for the State of Montana.
In Jun 1912, Spring Grove, MN, John married Miss Geneva Newhouse, daughter of Peter and Carrie Newhouse. Dahlgren children: John O., b. 7 Sep 1913; Robert, b. 25 Oct 1914.
