Hi Julie,
I have found the entry in 1881 census index for:-
64 Cobden Street, Wolverhampton
George Hickman, 40, Bricklayer, born Warwick,
Mary Hickman, 38, wife, born Warwick.
Emily Hickman, 3, born Wolverhampton,
Harriet Hickman, 5, born Wolverhampton.
Sarah A. Hickman, 2, born Wolverhampton.
Lavinia Daffern, step-daughter, unmarried, 15, born Birmingham.
William H. Daffern, step-son, 12, born Wolverhampton.
Sarah Hickman, mother, widow, 62, born Wolverhampton.
This William Henry died in 1955 Wolverhampton aged 86, but no birth registration can be found for him in St. Catherine indexes.I think your grandfather William Henry was born on the 2nd April, 1895 at Wolverhampton and died in 1972.I cannot find a marriage for the older William Henry yet and wonder if his birth was registered in the name of Hickman.Mary Daffern married George Hickman in 1870 at Wolverhampton so this proves she was either married or had a natural surname Daffern. The only death I can find from 1866 when Lavinia was born and 1870 when she married was for Thomas Daffern who died at Birmingham in 1867 aged 46.
Hope this helps
Diana
