Dear Maura Daffern,
I was interested to come across your message
re Dafferns from England. My father was called George Daffern born in England in 1911; his father was Harry Dafern born in Warwickshire, and we have a family tree going back to about 1800 on that side - my father used to say we were Norman descended and originaly called De La Fern - also that an anscestor was presented to Queen Elizabeth 1st in Kenilworth castle. I once found in an annexe to the FDomesday Book reference to the De La fern's in about 1200 in the Welsh marchs region. I currently live in that area and am writing among many other things an Encyclopedia of the Welsh marches. Please email me back ([email protected]) and also tell me how to suscribe to the Daffern family geneology register etc. It is a very rare name actually. My home address: Camlad House, Near Forden, Montgomery, Powys, Wales, SY21 8NZ - Tel. 0788 1694414.
Yours thankfully,
Thomas Daffern
