Hey - I'm a Daffern from Nuneaton in Warwickshire (Attleborough is a suburb of Nuneaton). My father has traced lots of Dafferns all over the UK (and some in Australasia). He has worked closely with the Nuneaton Genealogical Society. I have just called him, and he has some "prime suspects" as ancestors for Richard, but no conclusive links.
