Thank you for your message. I have recently found the father of my Billie, Joel Daffron. The name is Dauphin on the 1860 census of Hamilton County, Tennessee, but Daffron (indexed Doffin) in 1850. Joel died in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1861 after having served a little over four months in CSA.
Joel had two wives, Mary and Nancy, and I don't know which is Billie's mother. Two more children, Isaac and Elizabeth, disappear from the census. The youngest, Amanda, married George Frazier in Hamilton in 1881 and had two children who have descendants who remember that Amanda was an orphan.
I've been puzzled about the William Daffern (various spellings) who married Sina Frazier in Edgar County, Illinois. My Billie was born in Illinois about 1852, Isaac was born in Georgia and Elizabeth and Amanda in Tennessee.
It seems likely that Billie's parents went to Edgar County but there is no proof of that. They evidently went with a Denton family--Mrs William Denton was Martha Daffron probably Joel's sister--because they also have a child born in Illinois about 1852 and seem to have been on the move.
This simply cannot be the same Billie, but I'll send a picture to your E-mail address. It is on a page with his wife and their gravestone.
