I don't have this info directly with my info. because my late husb's. family desc. from John Dabney. However, in finding my way back to my info I vaguely recall reading a book that had that info. She was a desc. of Cornelius rather than John. If I count their parents as lst generation even though I don't have their names and they didn't immigrate, then Mary would prob. be 4th generation.

Likely books are "Colonial Families of Virginia" -more than l vol. I think. 2nd book is "Genealogy of Virginia Families" - taken from VA Magazine of History and Biography, vol. 5. 3rd is "Americans of Gentle Birth" which I would never take anything from if it isn't confirmed elsewhere -- too many families were hot to prove they have royal genes & accepted things that made that happen. 4th is LDS Church's Ancestral File and IGI. 5th is Daughters of American Colonists. Some of this was in libraries. Probably all is available via film from LDS.

The origin of the Dabneys is up for grabs. An early book said they were escaping Huguenots of the Daubigne or D'Abinot family. Other sources say that it was copied from that book to book to book and so came to be believed, but they think it far more likely that they are somehow connected with the Dabinott family of England -- somewhere else I got the impression the Dabinotts go back to someone who came to England w/William the Conqueror or William the Bastard depending on the writer's viewpoint -- same guy either way.

I have a little bit that may be of help, but it is info more related to John than Cornelius. It is believed that John the lst was the bro of Cornelius. They settled on the Pamunkey River in New Kent Co., VA.

Cornelius the lst m. Eedeth and m. Susannah Swan or Anderson. Cornelius may have been b.abt 1640 and John abt 1645.

John lst had a son John 2nd abt 1665 who d. bdf 1699. John lst died as a young man. John 2nd m. Sarah Jennings. Their children include 1) John 3rd b. abt 1690 NK Co., VA and prob. d. at sea -- never heard from again; 2) Susannah b. abt 1699-1705, d. 1752 Culpepper Co., VA, who m. abt 1720/1721 Culp. Co. to Francis Strother; and 3) Sarah b. abt 1698 perhaps Hanover Co., VA who m. Benjamin Brown abt 1716.

Sarah Jennings remarried to William Winston abt 1701 Brown's Cove, Albemarle Co., VA and they had 4 children I could find: 1) Isaac 1702-3 who d. w/o children bef. 1732; 2) William Jr. 1705; 3) Lucy 1707; and 4) Sarah 1709-10.

I am guessing that Cornelius who married another Jennings is the son or g'son of Cornelius the lst.

Good luck with your search. Marion
