Fellow Dabney Researchers:
I am trying to determine if I indeed do have a Dabney ancestor, specifically did a Sarah Dabney marry a William Winston (father of a William Winston b. in 1690 in Louisa/Hanover??) and begat the motley crew below.
I am tracing back from Anne Winston Carr and George Waller. This information comes from internet contacts and reading of family histories -- fraught with all the implications for innacurracies. Any comments, corrections, clues are welcome.
George Waller (b 8 Feb 1731 Spotsylvania Co., Va. & d 18 Nov 1814 Henry
Co., Va.) m 6 Apr 1761 to Anne Winston Carr b 4 Apr 1735 Spotsylvania &
d 1839 Henry Co., Va. She was said to be the daughter of William Carr who died
testate in Spotsylvania and Elizabeth Winston.
Many sources say (1)Elizabeth was the daughter of James WINSTON b 1726 md Anna FARRELL (d/o Daniel Farrell and Elizabeth Meaux), (2)James was son of William WINSTON b. 1690 & Barbara OVERTON (d/o William Overton and Mary Waters),(3) William was son of William and Sarah ?DABNEY (WINSTON).
Has any such William Winston and Sarah Dabney marriage been confirmed???? If so, where does Sarah fit in with the Dabney family
FYI, this is what I have after Anne Winston CARR and George WALLER. My descent is through Anne Winston Carr and George Waller II's son John Waller, who married Mary Polly Cooper, daughter of Capt. Thomas COOPER (s/o Benjamin Cooper and Elizabeth Kelly) and Sarah ANTHONY (d/o Joseph Anthony Sr and Elizabeth CLARK, d/o Capt Christopher Clark,s/o ???????? Micajah Clark and Sallie Anne MOORMAN).
John and Mary Polly's daughter Mary Polly Waller married Crispin Robertson SHELTON, son of Vincent Shelton (s/o Crispin Shelton and Letitia BUFORD) and Susannah RORBERTSON (d/o Henry and Ana ??).
Their daughter Nancy Clark Shelton married cousin Moses Hurt Shelton descended from Vincent's brothers Gabriel (md. Elizabeth SHEPARD, know nothing about her) and Beverly (md. Anne COLEMAN, know nothing about her), through Elizabeth Shelton and Charles Coleman Shelton respectively. Moses and Nancy are my gg grandparents.
All this was primarily in Louisa>Amelia>Pittsylvania and surrounding counties VA I think. Moses and Nancy ended up in Lawrence Co MO ca 1850 after a stopover 1838 or so for ten years in Todd Co KY. Their daughter Letsey md. William Edward BAUGH, (s/o Archibald Bolling Baugh b. ca 1790s probably Prince George Co VA, s/o??? Archibald Baugh and Sarah WORSHAM????) and Caroline WASH,d/o Lipscomb Wash of Powhatan Co VA.
Sorry to go on for so long. Thanks for any help and Merry Christmas (trying to see if I can't add a few more things to my tree before I print out some Christmas info for my family).
