I have at times wondered whether this Joseph Dabbs
you mention is related to the Elizabeth Dabbs
who also shows up as a head of household in Hardeman
Co. in 1840, and further, whether this Elizabeth is
the Elizabeth Hopper Dabbs who moved to Carroll/Boone Co.
AR from TN between 1845 and 1850. By the time they
show up in AR, Elizabeth is without husband, but has
children: Frances J., William Richard, Albert C.,
and Joseph John. Frances was born c. 1830, and
Joseph John in 1845. I had assumed that Elizabeth's
husband might be a William or a Richard, based on her
children's and grandchildren's names, but Joseph might
just as easily fit. If her husband was this elderly
Joseph you mention, it might explain why he is out of
the picture by 1850...
