Here is some information I received that may help someone.

Malvin Dabbs was born abt 1881-82 and died abt 1922 in CA I think. Her father was (according to another article) J.W.Dabbs. Her Mother was Ellen Lawson Dabbs b 1853 in Rusk Co, TX. I believe Malvin was also born in TX. J.W. Dabbs was a widower and had 4 (names unknown) boys when he married Ellen. They met in Corpus Christi TX. He owned a store in Sulphur OK. Ellen helped him build his fortune there then he willed all to his first sons. He and Ellen had another five kids one of them was Malvin. You can find Ellen Lawson Dabbs in a book called Women of the Century. Also try this web site
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/DD/fda66.html.

I have no further information on Ellen and none what soever on J.W. Dabbs. I did find a 1900 census for St. Louis that had a James W. Dabbs and a Malvin Dabbs (age 18 which is about right for my Malvin) as lodgers. This would suggest that Ellen Lawson Dabbs died prior to that time but I have an aunt (age 92) who thinks she met Ellen which would require her to be alive after the census.

Good luck,
Joe
