James, I am thrilled to receive your information on Calloway. He was my great-grandfather. His son, Hugh Rutledge, from the 2nd marriage to May Huey, was my grandfather. My father is Hugh's only child, Lee Graham. I have just begun to try to gather info on my Dabbs line. Hugh and his wife are both deceased. I live in Houston and am at home with a 2-year-old, so it's not easy for me to get to do any research in the library. The only info I have on Calloway comes from his obit which states that he died at age 82; member of a pioneer Jeff. Co. family; lived in Bessemer; buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetary; funeral at that church, where he was a member; member of Jeff. Co. Democratic Executive Committee for more than 30 years; chief Deputy Sheriff of the Bessemer Cut-off from '31-'35; Mason; Shriner. I do have a few photos of him and May and I believe his children from the first marriage. I know that he was married once prior to May, but I don't know her name and have sketchy info on those children. I would love to have any further info you can provide on my direct line: Calloway and May, John and Mary Jane, etc. (My father said he was told Mary Jane's family was descended from the Lee's of Virginia, related to Robert E.) If there is a lot perhaps you could tell me how I could purchase a copy of Dr. Dabbs's book; or I could pay you for copies of the relevant pages; or, if you have the info on your computer, you could e-mail the file to me. I have just gotten Family Treemaker and have been entering info on my other lines in it. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Also, how are we related?
