Dale....I don't know if this will be at all interesting or helpful to you, but here goes.
There was an Archer A. Davidson in my overall Davidson family who lived as an adult in Charlotte Co., VA by about 1818 (and he died there around 1852).Archer was closely associated with a man there who was named French Dabbs. We do not know at this time if Archer A. Davidson was part of the same overall Davidson family as the Samuel Davidson who married an Elender Lea (daughter of a Gabriel Lea) over in Campbell Co., VA in 1807....but there are some clues that suggest that they very well might have been related (and see more on a "Dabbs/Lea Connection" below).
Note: I see that there was a man named Lafayette Dabbs (per another post on this message board).I wonder if he was commonly called French Dabbs?
Per a post on the internet, there was a Mr. Willis who married a Miss Dabbs in Charlotte Co., VA in the early-1800s.One of their descendants married into the Lea family in Davidson Co., TN.I don't know, however, if the Lea family in Davidson Co., TN was part of the same overall Lea family as the Gabriel Lea who had been in Campbell Co., VA in 1807(but that would not surprise me too much).
In addition to the above, another researcher who has posted on the internet shows that there was also a Gabriel Lea who was part of the Lea family in Caswell Co., NC.That researcher indicated that some members of that Lea family might have also ended-up in TN.I note that there was yet another man named Gabriel Lea in Anderson Co., TN in 1850 or so, and he was much younger than the Gabriel Lea who had been in Campbell Co., VA in 1807.There was also a Samuel Davidson in Anderson Co., TN at the same time, but we do not know if he was the same Samuel Davidson who had married Elender Lea in Campbell Co., VA back in 1807.It seems, however, that the Samuel Davidson who married Elender Lea stopped appearing on records in Indiana (where he had moved) after about 1840....so maybe that was him in Anderson Co., TN after all (though the age ranges looks a little off....but those census age ranges are notorious for being wrong and/or inconsistent).
Perhaps the above Miss Dabbs who married Mr. Willis in Charlotte Co., VA was also a member of your Dabbs family.I would certainly suspect that she was closely related in some way to the French Dabbs who was also in Charlotte Co., VA.Have you seen any "Dabbs/Lea connections"....or any "Dabbs/Willis connections"....during your own Dabbs/Dobbs family research?
