Hello, In going over the will of ELIJAH VINCENT DABBS, son of DAVID SIDNEY/SYDNEY & ELIZA/ELIZABETH (WEBB) DABBS, I found something that made me very curious about whether I had solved the mystery of DAVID'S father. ELIJAH VINCENT (called "VEE") DABBS' will was dated 8 February 1915, filed in Anson County, NC. The DABBS FAMILY lived next to the RATLIFF FAMILY in the Morven area. He stated as follows: Item 2. I give to my sister MELISSA RATLIFF, and her heirs a lot of land claiming Two and one third (2/3) Acres, known as the SALLIE SIMMONDS? land. Item 3. I give, devise and bequeath, as rest of my property, both real and personal of every Kind and description, to my sisters JACQUELIN DABBS, LYDIA DABBS, and FANNIE JERMAN (JARMAN)*, and their heirs, share and share alike. Item 4. I hereby constitute and approve my trusty friend, T. J. RATLIFF (?Husband of MELISSA?), my lawful executor, to execute this my last will and testament, according to the true intent and meaning of the same, and every part clause thereof - I herebyy revoke and declare utterly void, all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made. Witnesses: R. M. FLOWERS J. W. PRATT J.P. Probate date: 30th day of October AD 1915. W. N. BOGGAN Clerk of the Superior Court. *My interest is FANNIE (FRANCES) JARMAN, who I believe married CHARLES JARMAN. The other connection is from the will of PENELOPE DABBS, widow of WILLIAM DABBS, dated 25th day of Oct 1843, and the witnesses were: JNO A McRAE or McREE and MALCOM (MALCOLM) SHAW. One of PENELOPE's bequeaths was as follows: "AVERY JARMAN the grandson of JOSIAH DABBS, the brother of my husband. What I am trying to find out is as follows: If JOSIAH DABBS was brother to WILLIAM DABBS (son of NATHANIEL), could AVERY JARMAN have been the son of FANNIE/FRANCES EVERTINE WEBB DABBS JARMAN, born Aug. the 23, 1860 (according to the Bible Records that I have), and grandson of DAVID & ELIZA DABBS? I would like to hear from anyone who can decypher this mystery. It seems pretty straightforward to me, but I most certainly could be mistaken. If this proves true, it would tear down a brick wall that has bothered so many of our kin. Thanks for any help, Bobbie Williamson-Dabbs Ledbetter BLSL@KNOLOGY.NET Notify Administrator about this message?
