Dabbs Family Genealogy Forum

My husband, Larry, is the Newspaper Archive Researcher King!! He has a knack when it comes to finding info for me through newspapers. Friday night he began reading Dabbs articles and continued on and off Sunday. He came across an article that listed Christopher H Dabbs(Jr) as a candidate to take the exam that would allow him to be appointed to the Naval Academy in Maryland in 1851.
Those of us who have been scratching our heads and wondering if we would ever find an piece of information about Christopher Jr after the 1850 Census are amazed. We now have a paper trail to set "the bloodhounds" (all of us who love finding Dabbs family info) to the task of finding out what happened to this young Dabb family member so long ago. I would like to see that his memory can go on if only as to when he died! He may have severed all ties with his family back in LA, if he chose to follow the Union cause. Maybe we will be able to find him with family and home above the Mason-Dixon Line, living among the people he swore to protect. But there is always the chance that he came back home to the South to serve in her Navy!
Next step is the archives at the Naval Academy. If he passed the exam and "went to sea" it is very likely that he served in the Navy during the War Between The States! James Muse Dabbs was noted as the only living son of the doctor at the time of his death.
