Nicole,
I recently started researching the family tree and was suprised to see your subject- the african american side of the Dabbs. I am a black descendant of Joseph W DABBS who settled in Hardeman Co. Tn. in the 1800's and then moved on to Illinois. He was a Southern Abolitionist. He had black family which he freed and took to Il. The first generation that I have any info on is for Edward Sammuel Dabbs born in TN 1832 Married California Callie Singleton
Il in Pope County IL 10/6/1851.
Most of the black Dabbs family that I know reside in southern IL.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime.
Good luck with your research
