I just saw your message, and it is very enlightening. With Christmas, etc., I had not had a chance to look up any of my entries. I did pretty well to have kept up with my e-mail. When I teach another genealogy class I will certainly include what you have shown in your answer. I really appreciate the history as you showed it. As a matter of fact, what you wrote is what makes one's family's history so interesting and fascinating. I am not of the mindset of those who do not want to find out about their ancestors because they may find "horse thieves" in their background. What we learn increases our yearning to find out more and more about what made our families do whatever they did. I was not being argumentative, even though I guess I sounded that way. I was rushed when I wrote my query/answer, and did not have the time to read over it. This was unthinkable! All I really wanted to know was where this information came from about our DABBS FAMILY having been pirates. I most likely sounded as though I meant my answer to be a rebuttal. It was not intended as such. I had adopted parents who were much older than I, born in the 19th century. They knew so much about our families. I could kick myself for not having asked questions when I was younger, when these wonderful people were alive. I did get a little through osmosis, but certainly I could have found out so much had I just asked. I had never heard about there being "pirates in our family" until I read the referenced query. However, I had heard of there being quite a number of my DABBS ancestors that were in law enforcement, which my research proves out. Thanks so much for all of your trouble, and God bless. Bobbie
