I might have been able to come up with the spelling and the village, if you would have written all the spellings of the surname used in US.
What other US documents do you have on this ancestor?
Was he naturalized citizen? Did he have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com Did he marry in US? Who did he marry? Did you find state marriage application, church marriage record? Any draft registration form?
