Lesley, Some thoughts on your posting. The names jump out at me as being Carpatho-Rusyn, which puts you right in the area you need, the border of Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Fesco which is an Italian spelling, probably was Fesko, a Rusyn spelling. On Ellis Island, you can see the difference. Those folks from Austria would be in Poland or the Ukraine, those claiming Hungarian would be in Slovakia. Do you know the ORIGINAL religion? If Roman Catholic, they may have been Hungarians, but if Greek Catholic or Russian Orthodox, then for sure they are Rusyns. Also, would you know the original spellings of the first names? You have English versions which will not help you in the East. Also, a miner works well in that area. Dobra Den would be Slovak, Dzien dobre would be Polish.
