Hello Laura, Yes, you can easily do a day trip from Vienna if you're driving. I usually take the E49 from Vienna to Gopfritz an der Wild and from there take the road to the border crossing in Nova Bistrice (since last December you can just drive through without stopping and showing your passport)and then on to Jindrichuv Hradec and Kamenice nad Lipou. Alternatively you could take the E59 to Znojmo, Moravske Budejovice up to Zeletava and then take the road to Telc and Kamenice nad Lipou. The city of Telc is a Unesco World Heritage site and definitely worth seeing. It might be worth staying overnight if you're planning to stop in Telc and spend some time there (there is a castle in the city worth visiting). If, however, you want to see only Kamenice and Lipou and Pravikov, then I don't think it's worth staying overnight. There really is nothing special to see in Kamenice and area. But this is just my opinion. If you're planning to take the bus or train to Kamenice, you'll definitely need to stay overnight. Very few people speak English in small towns and villages - if they speak another language it's usually German - so you may have problems communicating. Young people speak English more often than the older generation because English is taught in schools now. You shouldn't have problems in larger towns, though. There is a place in Kamenice nad Lipou where someone may speak English or help you find someone who does. It's the ticket office where you buy a ticket for a tour of the Kamenice castle. The small castle is located just off the town square and the ticket office is open until 5 pm. They close for about an hour at noon for lunch. They sell not only tickets but also postcards and tourist guides and serve as an information centre for visitors. They are not open Mondays (many historical sites such as castles, etc. are closed on Mondays). Another place that may help you is the local public library but they're open only on Mondays, Wendesdays and Fridays. Joseph Notify Administrator about this message?
