The Czech Republic like most of the other iron curtain countries enacted rather stringent privacy laws once communism was gone. While many of the other post-communist nations allowed the Mormon's Family History lLibrary to microfilm their old BMD records the Czech to this point never did. The way that genealogy is practiced there is to hire a genealogist that is familiar with the district record archive. Trying to do record look ups while visiting there may not be practical. The old church records are valued as historical documents and in many of these countries the books have been transfered to state-run archives where they can be properly cared for. There is also the question of whether or not priests would consent to do time consuming look ups even if they had the records. The only place I have found people knowledgeable about Czech genealogy is on this site; http://login.prospero.com/dir-login/index.asp?webtag=iarelative&lgnDST=http%3A%2F%2Fforums%2Edelphiforums%2Ecom%2Fiarelative%2Fmessages%2F%3Fmsg Notify Administrator about this message?
