Please provide the name as you found it on EI site as I can not find it under the spelling you gave.
Up to 1918 the records would say Austria or Hungary.

Have you used One step/gold form www.stevemorse.org to locate a manifest?
Which is your ancestor? SIMKANIAN, SIMKANIN, SIMKANJIN, SIMKANYIN. Most of them were from Vehecz - Vechec, Slovak Republic.
